There are a few free patterns, which is a good way to sweeten the deal. It cost about NZ$80 to buy and ship the catalog. I can't justify buying it in any way (financially), but it is a work of art!
As you may know, the actual patterns come in single sizes with no seam allowances. The free patterns come multi-sized, so you trace them like Burda. Reading the measurements, my top size is somewhere between a 46-48. I went for the 48, because a too-small top is no good for anything. Note that the patterns in the catalog are only available in a few sizes, so you may need to grade between them.
The magazine suggests making Marfy 3075 out of "viscose wool, silk, or other soft material". I think viscose wool is a poor translation of viscose *jersey* (jersey=sheep, sheep=wool). Basically, any soft drapey knit would work.
There's nothing in particular to note about the construction - it's a t-shirt! The notches match up! That said, it drapes beautifully at the front. The sleeves are a lovely length and shape. While my back is a smidge narrower than the 48, this generally seems to be the right size for me.
It's a nice basic that could work for people of many ages and styles. I find it hard to get shirts with short sleeves that aren't 'caps' (which are horribly unflattering on me). I also find it hard to get cowl shirts or patterns that I'm happy with - they are either too modest, or make me feel very exposed.
If you're on the fence about whether to buy the catalog, it's a thumbs-up from me. I like some of the other free patterns too, and it's a seriously gorgeous coffee table book.
I love the neck on this! It's super cute on you and looks SOOO COMFY
ReplyDeleteThe neckline is really what makes this a bit special. It is indeed very soft and comfortable - thank you :-)
DeleteI've often wondered about the Marfy catalogue, so I might buy one. The price has put me off as well. The t shirt worked out well, especially nice with the soft cowl effect.
ReplyDeleteI looked at it as a similar investment ti a book - it's interesting and pretty to look at. I'm glad that the free patterns work as a bonus. It's expensive, but I saw it as a treat :-)
DeleteThe t-shirt has worked out well, and thankfully needed no adjustment.
The cowl neck looks lovely! It elevates it above the level of a simple t-shirt.
ReplyDeleteYes! And I think it both suits and fits me better.
DeleteI agree with everyone, this is a very lovely tee shirt. The neckline detail makes it much more special and the fit is great.
ReplyDeleteThanks Megan :-)
DeleteI love a cowl neck - very flattering. Love your top. The colour is great on you. I too have a dislike of the cap sleeve. Marfy patterns are way too small for me unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteI love cowl necks too. Cap sleeves just draw attention to the biggest part of my arm, which I could do without!
DeleteYes, most of the Marfy patterns do come in a fairly narrow range. It's a shame they aren't an option for everyone.
This is a really lovely Tshirt, the cowl neckline adds a special touch. The colour is fabulous too. It looks absolutely gorgeous on you :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Carolyn. It's one of those fabrics that just *feels* gorgeous too!
DeleteIt is delightfully drapey - love the oyster colour of that knit! I splashed out and got the catalogue too... just about to send through an order for a few of my favourites! It looks lovely on you :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you've ordered from the catalogue! I've got about 50 sticky notes marking my favourites - I *may* need to whittle that down a bit ;-)
