As promised, here's the description of the AMAZING toffee coffee at Michener's Restaurant on Iririki Island...
They wheel a little stove out to your table. Then, the sugar is melted.
The cup is rimmed with delightful toffee, which hardens into a lovely crunch.
Mmm.
Now the coffee is added. Tanna Island (another part of Vanuatu) is known for its coffee-growing.
Now for the awesome bit! Who doesn't love to see drinks on fire? The alcohol of choice is one part dark rum and one part Creme de Cacao.
But what is this that I spy? Toffee baskets, of course.
The finished treat, with cream on top! Wow, it's alcoholic. And sweet. And fattening. And delicious. And amazing. And et cetera.
It's a Vanuatu must-do!

I don't drink coffee or alcohol, but I sure can appreciate how beautiful that all looks! It looks absolutely magically and so fancy! Amazing!
ReplyDeleteThe showmanship alone made it worth ordering!
DeleteOh wow, that look amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing!!!! Obviously, me and coffee aren't friends, but I reckon you could make it work with hot chocolate. And then, you know, instantly slip into a diabetic coma from all the sugar........ ;)

DeleteThree hours of database construction in class tonight = brain dead Kirsti
I think you could do it with hot chocolate! Be sure to send photos if you do...
DeleteWow. That looks like my kind of dessert!
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty darned amazing. I insisted on going back another night just so we could have dessert there again!
DeleteOh. My. Goodness. I must have at least one of these once in my life. AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
DeleteOh oh oh oh oh that looks wonderful. Would you eat the baskets first, cos well you might as well finish when started else you're really sticky, then the coffee? Or ... lol
ReplyDeleteGood question! Yep, I ate the toffee baskets first (with my fingers), and then I sort of required a shower :-D
DeleteThat's so pretty! I bet it was pricey too though.
ReplyDeleteYou know what's crazy? It was about $8. Which, even compared to the price of other food in Vanuatu, was actually *cheap*!
DeleteWhat an experience!
ReplyDeleteI know, it was so much more than just an after-dinner coffee!
