A trip to Shelly Beach

On Saturday, we visited the cousins, and ate Burger Wisconsin for dinner. In between, Dad, Chris and I travelled to Shelly Beach on the Kaipara Harbour.

Unexpectedly, the weather was gorgeous. Warm and sunny, though a little windy.

This place is a little over an hour from Auckland. I'd never heard of it, but it was recommended to us by my family. I'm really glad we came!

It has a camping ground that also welcomes motorhomes. The nearest town is Helensville. There are signs just out of Helensville warning that there are no more petrol stops,

The shop is fab. This delicious platter of fishy things and wedges was $16, which is not bad for a good feed... and everything was fresh. So fresh it still tasted of the ocean! They will also cook any fish you catch, if you are so inclined. It doubles as a small general store, for campers who forgot to grab the basics back in Helensville.

We all enjoyed the unexpected fresh air and sunshine. If you just so happen to be in the Auckland region, I highly recommend visiting Shelly Beach!

  1. So pretty!!! Is it like the Mornington Peninsula of Auckland then?

  2. Shelly Beach is a little like Stony Point (Westernport Bay), I think. There isn't even a town as such, just a few houses and the shop.

Given that storms were forecast, I'm just glad that it didn't rain!
