Easter road trip part 2 - Mangakino to Taihape

The central North Island is gorgeous. There is a good reason why Peter Jackson used it for his films...

After reaching Mangakino, I continued south. Past the mountains and about as far inland as is possible in New Zealand!

When I came home, I was actually disappointed to find that heather is a weed... I thought it was pretty, anyway.

Not much snow, but at least the lenticular cloud looks interesting. Onward to Taihape!

"What's interesting about Taihape?", I hear you say. Well, not much. Except this.

What is it?

Figured it out yet?

Yep, it's a great big gumboot. Every small town feels the need to have a 'catch', and for some reason this is what Taihape claimed. Oooookaaaaaayyy.

  1. Love the photo of the mountain!! Glad to see the camera got a workout :)

And at least NZ small towns don't build their 'catches' out of fibreglass like we do ;)
