Girly as! BurdaStyle 8/2010

Sometimes I just HAVE to finish a project. Not for any good reasons, just because it is weighing on my mind.

I traced out the pattern for this one months ago. As it turns out, could have been a size smaller. Oh well.

This is my first crack at sewing chiffon. It gets pin marks, pulls, frays... the only thing that saved my sanity is that this pattern didn't require proper hemming. Or any at all, if you listen to Burda.

Yes, it is meant to have random seams on the outside - sheesh, do you really think I'm that bad at reading instructions?

Finished result? It's so soft and girly, and generally unlike most things that I wear. I think that a few washes will improve it. I took this photo (in which I look very stupid), purely to see whether two layers of chiffon would prove see-through with a flash. Not too bad with a nude bra underneath!

And it will look fabulous with a black jacket over the top tomorrow night when I take myself on a date to see Harry Potter.

I love Burda Style. I don't think I can ever go back to the frumpy styles from the American sewing catalogues...

Feel free to check out my review at

  1. Can you tell me how many meters you need for this top?

  2. Hi Nina,

I used one metre of 140cm wide chiffon for the outer layer, and about 75cm of chiffon for the inner layer.

The pattern information can be found on Burda Style here.

    Hope that helps!
