Making my own stuff

You may have noticed by now that I like to make *stuff*. Most of what you have seen so far is food. That is because I make food all the time, in order to eat.

However, I also love to make clothes. I have difficulty getting clothes that fit over my chest without billowing out at the bottom and making me look pregnant. With the quality of clothes available to buy for a reasonable price, tailoring them to fit is really not worthwhile.

I've been sewing since I was a kid - more on that later.

But here is a selection of clothes I've made in recent times. I think I learn something new with each pattern that I try.
This one is Butterick 8253. It's my first attempt at sewing stretch (it's kinda t-shirt material). After a bit of trial and error with fabric scraps, I put this together. I'm really happy with the finish. Mum always said that you can tell how well someone sews by what the INSIDE of the clothes looks like. And this is pretty good.
This skirt was a bit of an experiment, using Burda 8155. I just used cheap material to see what it looks like on. If I make it again, I'll make it knee length (and I already shortened this when I made it), and I'd make it in a size smaller. Oh well, live and learn.
This dress is New Look 6775. It makes me happy. Can you tell?

  1. I like. I bet all those people who wanted you to sew their buttons on because you had a sewing machine back in Uni knew you had skill

  2. Hahaha yes, either that or they were really slack...

My sewing machine now really *does* sew buttons, if you want it to. But I don't, because that leads to loose buttons, like on store-bought shirts.

  3. Thanks for stopping by my blog, love all your creations and food ...lol. So excited to see an Engineer on the block.... I am an Electrical Engineer Bsc. and Biomedical Engineer Msc. The sewing blog shows the real girl in me...I have always been the only girl on the block in my career but glad I can be me....Thanks sistah, and yes we should unite.....lol..Have a great weekend
